Western Interactions

Japan had the worst interactions with the west becasue they didnt surrender when the germans did in WW2, they were the first country to have been attacked with nuclear weapons, and they also made a choice to not trade with any other countries. Their bad relations started when they refused to trade with the rest of the world, the western world started a war with them and made them trade after Japan lost the war. WW2 was a harsh time for japan because they didn't surrender when the germans did and it was basically all the western nations against Japan. They were also the first country to be hit with an atomic bomb which was very harsh. Overall the western nations were not very nice to Japan and it was mostly Japan's fault that these things happened.

Spanish Writing

Yo volví a mi hotel y dormí.

Rocket News Story

Newspaper Story

The 8th grade class of 2017 has prepared all year for this one project, the legendary rocket project. At the beginning of the year the Science the Science class did the jet car project studying motion, after that they did the egg drop project, studying how to make an egg survive a fall, after that project they did the parachute project, studying parachutes for the future rockets.
At the beginning of the Project Sam and Win started building their rocket, put fins on, made a pointed nose cone. They launched the first rocket in their class and although it failed it motivated them to continue onward. After that they kept launching and also had the first successful launch with parachute deployment. They kept testing and broke two eggs then made a new rocket. Their new rocket was a success and after successfully launching three times in a row with fake eggs they launched twice with a  real egg earning a time of 9.4 seconds and an A grade. They then launched one more time and broke their last egg. “Well, we succeeded,” said Sam and they left the project with an A.

Rocket Reflection

So far the rocket project has been a success for me and Win because we have constructed 2 rockets, made awesome parachutes and have launched 1 real egg. Even. Though the egg failed to stay together because our parachute deployed we have still done pretty well. Our successes would be making a water refill bottle so that we don't have to refill our bottle in the sink after every launch, with the refill bottle you can launch a lot more times in one class which increases our chances of succeeding. We have very good effort and don't use any time doing stuff that we don't need because in order to do really well in this project you have to be extremely efficient, and we are. We keep all our materials in one place so that we never lose them and always test until we are sure something will work. We have only really failed once and that was when our parachute didn't deploy with a real egg in it but we have worked past those challenges and constructed another better rocket that combines all the good things of our old rocket and some awesome new ideas into one egg launching capsule that I'm confident will destroy the sky with its epic ness.

Debate Reflection

In my opinion our whole debate project was a success because we found good facts, put up a good fight, and we were very efficient with our time and planning. Our team debated on the side that was arguing that the bomb was no the right thing for the us to do, and that Truman should have saved japanese lifes also. Our main points were that invading with troops would have been better and saved more life's, and the bombs radiation kept actively killing people for 2. Years after the bomb was dropped. While researching we put all of our data on one google doc so that each member in our group was able to add and edit research and questions at the same time. Because of this method we had 4 people working at once and basically pumped out all the information and work that would lead up to our debate. On the day of the debate we had all of our sheets of questions, work, and facts printed out so that we could easily see everything we needed to put up a fight in the debate. I think that the accual debate was very close because both teams seemed to have good ideas and facts leading up to their arguments. I asked some questions and did a couple rebuttals during the debate and I think I could have done better but can't you always. The whole process was also pretty fun from reading Hiroshima to researching the atomic bombs because I learned a lot of things that I never knew before like that the Japanese were also doing nuclear research during the war,  but most of all that dropping the bomb was not the right thing to do. I hope I don't forget them because they are both interesting and reflective of some modern conflicts. I improved my researching skills and speaking skills from this project.

Goal Reflection Soccer

I have realized that my goal about moving up to the white team in HFC soccer will not happen because I will not be playing HFC next year. I have made a new goal for my soccer life however and that is to continue our winning streak for another 3 games. I will do this by playing my best in defense and doing everything I can to not let any goals in on our side of the field. I should support the offensive half of the team so that they will have greater potential to support the team and if both of these things happen for at least three games then I will have achieved my goal.

Research Project

For my research project I want to research the valley of the kings which I found out about while researching the head of Augustus, I was curious so I did some research but then thought I could use it for a later project so this seems to be the project.

Life is Fine poem

I went down to the river,
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn't,
So I jumped in and sank.

I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn't a-been so cold
I might've sunk and died.

But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!

I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby
And thought I would jump down.

I stood there and I hollered!
I stood there and I cried!
If it hadn't a-been so high
I might've jumped and died.

But it was High up there! It was high!

So since I'm still here livin',
I guess I will live on.
I could've died for love--
But for livin' I was born

Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry--
I'll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.

Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!

Life is fine reflection

Life is fine by Langston Hughes is a poem with a lot of imagery and rhythm. In the poem he talks about drowning in a river and jumping off a building but he can't because life is too fine to waste. I like this poem because it has a large beat and kind of sounds like a song, it's also a poem about life being good and I think life is good also so I think I can connect a little. This is probably my favorite poem right now because I like reading it over and over due to its song like qualities. From this poem I mainly figured out that poetry is better when you have good ideas, if you have a good idea and want to write a poem about it then it will be a better poem then if you just wrote something random that rhymed. Writing about ideas makes a poem a lot better.

Improved all things have good poem

Staying up till the warm sunlight
Saw a sunset and rise in the same day
Fire burning down the fair
There's room for new roller coasters
All things have good

Trees crashing from the flashing light
New growth has a greater chance
Gazelle bounding away from a cheetah
The cheetah won't starve
All things have good

Slipping down the stairs
Warn dad so he doesn't
Blue books missing white pages
Some lucky person has the sheets
All things have good

Cold snow keeps you inside
It's a winter wonderland
All things have good
But all things have bad

Mission Statement

I want to expirience everything: Being happy, sad, poor, courageous, daring, rich, leading, following, and many more things. I want to be the person who everybody looks to when they need help. I want to have done everything by the time I'm old, from hang gliding to running a business. I want to have a lot of fun in my life, but if I need to work in order to have fun, then I will work as much as is needed to do these things. I want to master at least three additional things on top of Spanish, Snowboarding, and Soccer. I want to make lots of money but that's only because I want to be able to do the things I want to do and have no roadblocks. The goal of my life is to have fun and be everything.

Poetry Reflection

I learned that poetry helps you be more relaxed and also makes you think more about everything. I thought about normal things you just do during the day and also things that you see that you usually wouldn't think about, and that's how I got most of the ideas for my poems. I got the idea for Autumn, a poem I wrote, because I've had a long grudge against fall and writing a poem about it makes me feel better. I think I mostly relied on my writing about the object or thought to make my poems good but sometimes I used repetition like in all things have good. I think my poems were good and expressed my feelings or opinions about certain things. I also think I wrote my poems so that I could just write down my opinions and thoughts about normal things that we as people do. It made me think more and I liked that so because of this unit I will probably write more poems in the future.

Play script

Scene 1
(Newton sits in Physics class working teacher walks over to him.)
Narrator: In the year of 1665 Isaac Newton attended trinity college in cambridge england Teacher: Isaac You are the best student of this class
Isaac: Thank you, this is my favorite class and I think that I will pursue universal physics as my career.
(Isaac talks to classmate)
Classmate: Do you ever wonder what's out there, you know, in space
Isaac: Sometimes, but the bigger question is how it all works.
(person 1)
1: I need to talk to you in the hall for a minute.
Teacher:
(walks back in) We are having a school wide dismissal because the plague has been detected in our town.
(Students start packing up)
(Isaac falls to knees and begins crying)
Drama scene: Isaac you need to get out of here, you need to go home
Isaac: this is my home
Teacher: but isaac you'll die
Isaac: If i leave here i'll be as good as dead
(teacher drags isaac out of class)

Scene 2: Apple Scene
1666
Narrator: In 1666 Isaac Newton continued his studies on physics at his house in Woolsthorpe. (in “home”)
(tossing globe)
Isaac: This is perplexing, why do these equations not add up. It makes no sense (mumble) i cannot think in here
(epic boss walking scene)
(newton walks outside with clip board)
(starts writing on paper under tree)
(dropping apple)

Isaac:thats it!!!!!!!!!!! If forces cause acceleration. there must be a force that makes objects accelerate toward the earth
Narrator: But newton didn't stop there, he wanted to create a universal law

Scene 3: Telling people about gravity
Narrator: In 1672 isaac newton gave lectures and educated people on this newly discovered
force
Isaac: through my research I have discovered that all objects with mass exert a pull on all other objects with mass. That means that there must be a force between all objects.
Person 1: How did you arrive at this conclusion?
Newton: *Drops something* Why does that fall? There must be a force that pulls it down. I have come up with an equation to explaining this phenomenon fg= G m1 m2

d squared
(writes on white board in green marker)
isaac: D is the distance between the two objects, g is the gravitational constant, and m sub 1 and m sub 2 are the mass of the 2 objects.

Narrator: Isaac Newton died a well known man and his discoveries will always be remembered.

Poems

Autumn
Sam Ryan

Poems about autumn
Are all about leaves
Or change
Or people
Or trees
Nothing interesting
Happens in fall
No fun
No games
No having a ball
You don't remember
What happens before winter
No swings
No rides
Not even bad splinters
It just turns out to be
That fall
Is the worst season of all
All other seasons have their fun
Summer is play
Winter is snow
And spring is new growth
But fall is dull
As a gray rock
It's like the night of the year
The rain in the weather
The loss amidst the wins
Autumn amounts to nothing
And never will.

Accomplishments
Sam Ryan

It's sad
That the best
Creations
Destroy themselves.
Our cities
Produce smog
Which covers
Their beauty up.
Giant empires
Get taken down
By the very people
Who live in them.
We humans
Are created
But we wear ourselves out
And die.
So much
Has been accomplished
And will soon
Be destroyed.
So enjoy it
While it last
Because its life
May not be long.

There is also 2 more poems at http://www.moontowncafe.com/ that I have submitted to the website poem contest. (The two contest poems are happier than these 2)

Africa Blog post

Geographic challenges and resources have shaped Africa history a lot because Africa has lots of unique resources and geographic elements. African culture is affected by its resources because in Africa there is many different minerals such as diamonds, uranium, gold, and cobalt. Foreigners came to Africa to mine the minerals and make money and therefore Africa made no money off of its resources. Geography has shaped African history also because 80% of Africa is within the tropical zone which greatly affects its climate. The climate affects the vegetation and because of that Africa is a big exporter of crops changing culture and bringing money into Africa. 1/5 of Africa is forests so Africans can export lots of wood and get money but because of this deforestation is a problem. The steady food source in Africa caused populations to grow and prosper. In the great Rift Valley there is good soil and better farming. All good things in Africa improved strong culture and all bad things strengthened culture.

Africa has a lot of problems mostly because of the slave trade. During the slave trade people were taken from Africa and made to work for people in foreign countries. The strongest African people were picked to be slaves and that left the African community weak but they still survived. The slave trade led t Africans turning on one another which led to distrusting countries and war. Africans were given access to guns in exchange for slaves and because Africans had guns it made the wars worse. War with the foreign countries broke because the foreign countries were taking the African people against their will. Usually the foreign countries were stronger than the Africans and that wasn't good for Africa because int he wars they were defeated. Small civilizations in Africa disappeared because of foreigners moving in. African culture changed a lot. Money was introduced and the trade system died out. Cities were more common because of foreigners style. Africans needed money so they grew cash crops which weren't good because they weren't a good diet and people only grew them because they could sell them. The African culture changed a lot because of foreigner influence but still had its individuality.

Africa has impacted many countries in the world for lots of reasons. One way is the slave trade, Africa traded slaves with the us and other countries and made the world think less of Africa. Minerals from Africa made foreign countries more wealthy because foreign countries owned mineral companies in Africa. People from Europe moved to Africa and created cities. Africa's culture has impacted many countries that involved in the slave trade because wherever the Africans went they brought their culture with them. Even though African slaves were bad they helped productivity on foreign countries. In America slaves helped build and improve the country even though they were mistreated. Africans didn't impact the world as much as other countries but

Europe Blog Post

During our Europe Unit in Language arts we did a lot of things to learn more about Europe. In the unit we took notes on power points that Mrs. Pyeatt put together for us, we also had to put on a play for the class that described a certain event that happened in European history. In this play we worked in groups of three and I had Jay Groh and Jaya Mamas in my group. We did a play about Isaac Newton discovering the force of gravity, there were three scenes and a lot of facts jammed into the presentation. I think everybody in the class benefitted from our filmed performance because there was a ton of stuff that our class didn't know in the play. I also think that I benefitted from our own project because I learned a lot about Isaac newton that I didn't know before. Ontop of that everybody else in the class put on a play and I think I learned a lot about Europe because of these presentations that the other students did. The only reason the class was able to put on several presentations was because in the beginning if the unit we learned a lot about European history. We took notes and learned about wars, geography, great leaders, and civilizations. After we finished all the power points that we took notes on, I felt that we knew a lot more about Europe. I am exited to see what more we do with our knowledge about Europe and I feel like I'm armed with knowledge about European history at all times.

Virtue Post

I think that virtue is the ability to make the right decisions in life that will ultimately make you a better person, and by these good decisions you will influence other people and help them have more virtue. Leadership is part of virtue because if you are a leader and make good decisions you will influence other people to make them better people. The best thing you could be is a good role model, if you can set a good example while making the right decisions and being the best you can be you will greatly encourage other people to be virtuous. Virtue is important because it can make your life and others better and can teach you how to appreciate the good things in life. If you have virtue you will feel good everyday just knowing that there is so many beutiful things around you.

Baylis+Sam R+J reading tips

Shakespeare Reading Tips
By Sam and Baylis

1. Perseverance-
When you read Romeo and Juliet the main thing that you should focus on is persevering throughout the book. If you persevere then you'll understand the book better and have more fun reading it, you'll also be able to understand more complicated books if you persevere through Shakespeare's writing because its a good experience.
2.Re-read-
A good thing to do while reading Shakespeare is to re-read complicated parts. By re-reading you will probably find more information that you didn't notice the first time you read it. Also, when you re-read you will understand the book much better overall.
3.figure out root Words-
If you don't know a big complicated word then it's a good idea to look up the prefixes, suffixes, and roots for that word to better understand it. Looking up words will add new meanings to sentences that you didn't know before because you didn't know what the key word meant.
4. Visualization-
Visualizing is an important part of any reading, but it's especially important in Shakespeare's plays because you will better enjoy the story if you can make a picture in your head of what's happening in the book. You can also imagine the setting and what the characters look like if you visualize the story; which, overall, will make the play seem more exciting.
5. Infer-
When you read Shakespeare it opens up the story if you infer a lot. By inferring you can find out things that Shakespeare his into the text such as humor, foreshadowing, and many hidden elements that would enhance your experience while reading Shakespeare's literature. If you combine this method with the other 4 you are sure to understand Shakespeare much better and have more fun reading the literature.
